Other Water Solutions

There are multiple other water solutions that can be used to treat your water, depending on its components and the purpose of reuse.

Chlorination

Chlorine is commonly used to disinfect pool water, tank water, and often even drinking water. It kills bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms that can be harmful to its reuse. Chlorination also reduces the amount of iron, manganese, and hydrogen sulphide in the water.

Chlorination is both reliable, and convenient. It is easily available worldwide, and does not leave a harmful amount of residue if dosed correctly.

Chlorine can be used in the following sectors for water disinfection while it’s being treated:

  • Commercial water tanks
  • Household water tanks for domestic use
  • Swimming pools, jacuzzis, etc
  • Municipal water systems for centralised disinfection

Adding chlorine to water for disinfection requires expertise, as different treatment methods and microbe concentration require different amounts of chlorine, depending on the purpose for which the treated water will be used.

Water Filtration

Filtration is the process of removal of impurities like dirt, algae, and other sediments from water, by passing it through a membrane. There are different types of filters that use different mechanisms for filtration, depending on the impurities.

The types of filtration systems we provide are:

  • Self cleaning filters with automatic backwash systems
  • Microfiltration systems with multiple configurations
  • Self contained side stream filters
  • Media filters with low environmental footprint
  • Dynamic separators as an addition to side stream filters

Filtration is most commonly used in drinking water treatment processes. WSCO can design plants with all these processes, and combine multiple filtration processes for different plants.

Deionization

Deionization is a water filtration process that is used to separate salt content from water i.e. demineralization. This process requires the passage of water through 2 ion exchange materials, in order to completely rid it of salts.

Deionizers can be used as standalone units for laboratories etc, or as a part oflarger water treatment processes, along with Reverse Osmosis.

Ultrafiltration

Ultrafiltration is a water treatment process used to remove silt deposits from water that can affect Reverse Osmosis membranes. It is a method usually used by larger industries, like those that manufacture steel and plastic, resin, and paper. Ultrafiltration is also used for pretreatment of seawater, and biologically treated municipal water.

Water Softening

Water softening is the removal of metal ions from hard water, like magnesium, sodium, and calcium. This prolongs the life of plumbing pipelines, as fewer deposits are formed. Soft water is also better for domestic use, as it does not affect hair or skin harshly.
